It's high time to change my header.
Spare me the clothes. Spare me Saturday night outs. Spare me (yes) even coffee.
But the shoes? That'll give me time to think carefully.
I've been captured by the styles that this certain "shoe brand" in Manila offer. Frankly, I've never been fascinated with shoes until recently. Or at least, until I saw the styles that are being sold at a mall near the office.
Here's my yesterday's purchase:
"Lavinia" platforms by Possibility in B/W
I've googled my way looking for an online site that Possibility shoe-brand has. After all, I'm one of their loyal brand supporters. Most of the shoes they manufacture, though not original (as I see their styles inspired straight from 'designer-brand' fashion runways), are quite outstanding and unique --- compared to those mostly sold here in Manila. They aren't cheap, like I said before, but the price is competitive enough for shoe-advocates like me to keep coming back.
Most of the sales ladies there already knew me by name, to my surprise. But I'm glad that through simple (and call it materialistic) things like these, I gained a couple of acquiantances. That and the nice customer service they give me -- they even send me a text message everytime a new style comes out!
2009 has been an amazing year so far. Thanks to God, my family and friends, the positive aura that they offer is impossible to ignore. There are a handful of challenges & drama that has been coming my way, but sure enough, I believe I can get pass through it all.
Ironically, I wouldn't get in-depth about it. I'll save it for another entry.
This time is about my newly-purchased shoes. Shoes! Shoes! Shoes!
Shoes I couldn't resist the moment I stepped on the pair to try it; after all, my friend and I agreed how it glamorously fits. I know I got to have it.
CMG-Matthew's shoes:
This style wasn't exactly the first one I had in mind. I was rooting for the other laced-up one, but after the fit, there wasn't any "spark" whatsoever. Ergo, the above image.
I took some shots of moi, thanks to Quiane (the camera), these came out pretty nifty:
I've been good, by far, in doing one of my goals for this year. My first 2009 shoe purchase was only this February, saving me a month free of fashion consumption. I'm no good at following New Year resolutions; frankly, I don't resolve anything.
Thus, the goals. Goals, for me, are pretty much attainable than resolutions. So yeah, it amazes me how my "shop-every-two-months" seem to be on-track. It's not bad to shop for shoes, clothes or whatnots. I think it's very important for a person to realize that to free him/her of any guilt-feeling after every purchase. You see, every hard-earned money should be wisely spent. Reward yourself every once in a while, you know you deserve it.
Just don't OVERDO it. If there's one thing I learned for the last quarter of 2008 (especially now we're in global recession), that is is to be thrifty. Not stingy, but thrifty. Now that's where you draw the line.
Oh well. So until the next two months! For now, I'm way too giddy to think about the clothes that I'm going to pair with this!
HAVE A GREAT WEEK EVERYONE!
(Sarah by Possibility in tan-colored leather.) -- Shopping unplanned always bring good surprises. I was at Trinoma this evening to meet up with some college friends for dinner. I thought I'd be late, considering how traffic is awful during this time of the year; but no, I wasn't. Being ahead of the rest, I spent those spare minutes wisely and went to Crossings' Ramp. Crossings' Ramp has been one of my favorite stores lately, as most of their clothing and (giggles) shoes are way ahead of fashion. I'm guessing most of the in-house designers they hire are either (a) simply magnifique, uninhibited when it comes to using their 'creative' minds, or (b) up-to-date, and religiously attends both local and international fashion shows to design and execute alternative YET quality-made products. Aside from the distinct look they offer, the price is reasonable enough. I wouldn't consider it cheap as most of the stores are here; but still, I like how prices are (mostly) at par with style and the quality. Stalling again. Going back to my shopping adventure, I was browsing through the lovely clothes and shoes of the store when this (see pictures!) pair caught my eyes. I mean, LITERALLY. My reaction was like one of those lifted from a classic movie scene: incoherently looking around, then out of nowhere, a ray of light directed my attention towards the subconcsiously coveted treasure, all glimmery-splendid, with the words "Try Me! Then Buy Me!" enveloped around it. My college friend SMS-ed then met me during my heightened desire for the shoes. Like me, he opted for the color and the style that took my *sigh* breath away. So I asked the sales staff for my size and tried it on. It was love at first fit. No hesitations, I walked around with a smile as wide as the ocean. I have to strut around TWICE to make sure that the shoes and I are in agreement. In less than fifteen minutes, the Sarah by Possibility is mine. SIGH. I know I said to myself that I'd stop buying 'Me-Fashion' things for the rest of the year. But man, with a creative-art-for-shoes like this, who am I to refuse?! I'm an artist who likes to translate my mood & emotions through the clothes and shoes I wear. After all, fashion constitutes art. (Haha! What a way to justify expense, eh?!)
As I waited for my turn to hand over my stuff to the grocery deposit counter, I saw a 7-year old (more or less) girl wearing shoes. *insert Psycho theme here* WITH HEELS.
Surprised wasn't the best way to describe my reaction. I was thinking more of SHOCKED, really.
After what I saw, a couple of questions crossed my mind:
How many inches is that? (ABOUT 1.5!)
Can she walk comfortably? (LOOKS LIKE IT!) and
Is she even LEGAL to wear that?! (FORGET CONSUMERISM, BLAME THE MOTHER!)
Flashbacks of my early childhood came to follow. I vividly recall no single incident of me wearing something with heels. Sure I did try my mother's high-heeled shoes a time or two, even walked on it with a couple of steps...
...but wearing something that exactly fits my used-to-be-tiny feet?! None! Non! Wala.
Unbelievable! Oh today's little girls... aren't you fortunate?!

So why do women (and apparently, little girls!) wear heels, anyway?
Reasons for wearing high-heels, which are almost exclusively aesthetic, include:
- they change the angle of the foot with respect to the lower leg, which accentuates the appearance of calves
- they change the wearer's posture, requiring a more upright carriage and altering the gait in what is considered a seductive fashion
- they make the wearer appear taller
- they make the legs appear longer
- they make the foot appear smaller
- they make the gluteal muscles more defined while wearing tight pants
....but then again, we have to counterattack those reasons with why women shouldn't...
Reasons for not wearing high-heels include:
- they can cause foot pain
- they can create foot deformities, including hammertoes (a) and bunions (b)
- they can cause an unsteady gait
- they can shorten the wearer's stride
- they can render the wearer unable to run
- altered forces at the knee caused by walking in high-heels may predispose to degenerative changes in the knee joint
- Women who wear high heels frequently have a higher incidence of degenerative joint disease of the knees. This is because they cause a decrease in the normal rotation of the foot which puts more rotation stress on the knee
- Podiatrists often comment that 75 percent of their business is caused by females wearing tall high heeled shoes.

Still consider these little girls (and now I include women) "fortunate"?
*rolls her eyes*
Women.
& little girls, too.
WITH THE "BLOGGING SILENCE" I HAD FOR DAYS, A WEEK EVEN, YOU'RE PROBABLY WONDERING WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO....
What's a girl like me to do?
Obviously, what other women do when faced with troublesome times --- SHOP, SHOP, SHOPPP!!!
Tsk-tsk for me, I've been shopping quite expensively. For three weekends in a row, I've managed to splurge on clothing and shoes.
This is not right.
But even if it isn't at all, I must confess: getting the stuff I want feels great. The problems caused by the so-called troublesome times aren't solved, yes; nonetheless, the satisfaction of outpouring such "headaches" over shoes, clothes, et al. is overwhelming.
A girl can only do much!!!!
....Then I go back to emphasizing that the stuff I bought are not needs. It's just me that wants....
... which brings into consideration on how much I've spent over wearable aesthetics...
...bahambug once more...
Therefore? It's time to hit the halt button. Lucky me, my passion for fashion agreed with the mandatory "halt", & hit the bullseye of my saturation point. (TAKE NOTE: ONLY FOR NOW.)
My resolution? Spare my credit card from swiping machines! FYI, I'm not promising anything; but at least, writing it down helps (It's therapeutic!)
And speaking of all this therapy bull... I must divert the negative energy to more productive things aside from SHOPPING. Otherwise, I'd go broke as the back of a mountain. Or something like that.

"Edible" shoes just because they're so fashionably yummy for my taste!!!
LIGHT BROWN SANDALS, T-GREENBELT
DENIM HEELS WITH GARTERIZED STRAPS, VNC
MUSTARD YELLOW GLADIATOR SANDALS, RAMP-PODIUM
MY CURRENT FAVORITE!
Another first on a Sunday Morning: a marriage proposal in front of a HUGE, GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS! crowd. Who would’ve thought any guy in his right mind would ask a girl to marry him during church service?! That’s practically asking the pastor to marry them right then and there!
HU-WAW. I got teary-eyed.
…and it’s safe to say that almost every woman inside the church felt the same too. (SUCKERS for romance!!!)

I finally managed to burn a part of my paycheck yesterday over a couple of random things:
(a) Marithe + Francois Girbaud Bag in black leather/ canvas
(b) Cleaning aid: Pledge wood cleaner/ Air Freshener in green tea/ Raid mosquito-cockroach killer
(c) Del Monte Fit N’Right, pineapple flavor
(d) Chips
(e) I AM SAM DVD
(g) Toiletries
(h) Yogurt
(i) Lingerie by Joyce Jimenez
As if that’s not enough splurging already, I’m contemplating on ACTUALLY buying the Charles & Keith shoes. Discount the fact that I’m suddenly having second thoughts over comfort!!! I'm now leaning towards the style and I can’t help it! I uber -like its style. It absolutely goes with every wardrobe I can imagine!
Maybe I’d drop by Glorietta later. Or maybe not.
Maybe this weekend. We’ll see.

I am Sam is one of those movies I can watch over and over and over and OVER again. It’s like Pretty Woman (Roberts, Gere) --- not in the story per se --- but in terms of non-saturation. I couldn’t tire myself from watching it!
Penn’s execution of Sam Dawson, a mentally-challenged guy, is more than believable! Sam’s character has been effectively handled by Penn that you almost forget that it’s actually Sean Penn. Oh yes, he’s THAT great of an actor.
I couldn’t say less for Pfeiffer or Fanning either; BOTH handled their roles in such a way complimenting and relevant to every scene and every co-actors.
I got the soundtrack long before I acquired this DVD. Every artists who covered the Beatles’ song delivered it with soul and class… which reminds me WHY I LIKE THIS MOVIE so much!
Sam, Annie, Rita (movie characters) drops Beatles’ tidbits and trivia every now and then. I am not a full-pledged Beatles’ fan. I’m not knowledgeable enough to know all of their albums or every hit song they produced. But after the whole “Sam” experience (and no, I’m not going to say that I AM NOW A FULL-PLEDGED fan), I’ve appreciated every wonderful songs they contributed to the music industry.
The movie, the soundtrack, the characters --- just about EVERYTHING “SAM” inspires me.
I guess it’s safe to say now that ALL WE NEED IS LOVE.
:-)
Hah. Talk about MORE corny…umm... ness.
